2nd Win Local Derby

Omagh Accies 2XV made the journey to The Cran on Saturday looking for revenge for their 7-26 loss earlier in the season to Clogher Valley 2XV. Omagh kicked off towards the clubhouse and against the slight elements but started brightly and went into an early lead through a try from winger Jack Beattie after some solid defensive hits and good attacking play.

 

The hosts seemed shocked at Omagh’s aggression and made numerous mistakes whilst under pressure to only lift Omagh’s confidence and hope of a positive result. Some great defensive sets were followed by some eye catching rugby but Omagh failed to convert their dominance into points until second row David Cummings dotted down after some good forward play.

 

When the half time whistle blew Omagh led 0-12 but their chat revolved around what they could improve and that the job was nowhere near done at this stage. Omagh received the kick off and controlled large parts of the game in the second half and when they didn’t have the ball their impressive defensive performance controlled the opposition. When Clogher did finally break Omagh’s line they converted their score with around 5 minutes left on the clock to leave the visitors with a nervous 7-12 lead.

 

On another day Omagh’s indiscipline may have cost them but through sheer heart and desire they stole the ball at a lineout around their 22 and kicked the ball out to spark some celebrations just as Omagh’s 1XV were kicking off on the other pitch.

 

Another impressive performance from James Kane and Glenn Warnock’s charges who will take on Banbridge on the 30th December in their final game of 2023 in County Down. Credit must be given to all players who have kitted out for the 2XV this year as there have been numerous changes from week to week but Omagh have the talent to compete in this league and have showed it on several occasions. Consistency will be what the coaches will be looking in 2024 but they would like to thank all supporters and sponsors for their help and guidance in 2023 and wish them a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
