Omagh 3 Defeat Dungannon 2
March 9, 2023Sundays Well 1st XV – 49
Omagh Accies 1st XV – 15
Omagh 1XV travelled to Musgrave Park at the weekend, after Munster played there on Friday night, to try and get revenge for a heavy defeat to Sundays Well at exactly the same point in the season as last year. Travelling down on the Friday night Omagh knew they had to start well and did so as Josh Kyle went in for the games first score to send them into an early 0-5 lead.
The Accies conceded a converted try but responded with a penalty to regain the lead at 7-8. The hosts were to score another converted try to go into the break leading 14-8.
Omagh started the second half, as they did the first, with a try from hooker Phil Ewing to send them back into the lead at 14-15. Unfortunately for Omagh, this was their last score of the day as they went on to receive two yellow cards and the numerical advantage paid dividends for the hosts as they ran out 49-15 winners.
A disappointing result for Omagh but three huge AIL fixtures remain as they hope to secure their All Ireland League status for another season:
• Midleton – home – 25th March
• Clonmel – away – 1st April
• Bruff – home – 15th April
All support over these remaining AIL games will be greatly appreciated by all the players, staff and members of OARFC. This weekend the AIL takes a break as Belfast Harlequins come to town for a Senior Cup Quarter Final – kick off 2.30pm at the Thomas Mellon Playing Fields.
