December 2, 2022Omagh Ladies XV – 33
Randalstown Ladies XV – 10
On Sunday 27 November Omagh ladies travelled to face Randalstown in the 2nd round of the Deloitte Women’s Junior Cup.
Having to shuffle the pack around due to a few late withdrawals due to sickness and injury Omagh started the match the slowest of the two sides. Randalstown scored their only two tries in the first half, whilst having the majority of the territory and possession.
But just before half-time a moment of brilliance from stand in captain Lynsay Hawkes saw her pick up the ball on the half way line, where she subsequently beat several defenders to sail under the posts for Omagh's first try, converted by Amy Patterson. Leaving the score 10-7 to Randalstown at the break.
A different Omagh side came out after the interval, where they upped their intensity and aggression, and got their talented backline into the game. Omagh scored soon after with some great handling from the backs, which sent fullback Lynsay Hawkes away for her 2nd try of the day.
At this point Omagh seized control of the match, and after several phases of play, scrum half Amy Patterson tried a wee sneaky chip and chase from outside the 22 and dotted the ball down herself to get Omagh's 3rd try. Converted by herself.
Omagh scored their 4th try through veteran number 8 Arlene McLaughlin, who after several big carries and runs throughout the game was able to crash over and score. Converted out wide by Amy P.
The final try of the day was scored by one of Omagh's new players this year Lauren Hunter, who is improving every game that she plays. Again the try was converted by Amy P.
The final score was 33-10 in Omagh's favour, which booked them a place in the quarter final of the Junior Cup. The ladies would like to thank their travelling support for pushing them into the next round!
Omagh ladies would also like to wish Randalstown the best of luck with the rest of their season. The next fixture for Omagh ladies is scheduled for Sunday 11 December where they will be hoping to build on this fantastic performance.
