Rainey OB 2XV – 20
Omagh Accies 2XV returned to league action on Saturday as they hosted Rainey Old Boys in the 2XV League. With both sides lingering dangerously near the bottom of the table, this was another big game for Omagh as they looked to increase their winning run to three games after great wins against Queens and Donaghadee over the last few weekends.
Omagh started brightly and went into an early lead through tries from winger Andrew Monteith, returning prop Peter Todd and veteran number 8 BJ Wilson but they conceded a converted try to leave the score at 15-7 with 20 minutes gone. Rainey scored another try but Wilson was to get his name on the scoresheet again to conclude the first half and send Omagh into the break leading by 22 points to 12.
After the break, the visitors kicked a penalty before Jack Beattie scored a fabulous try as Wilson drew in the covering defence after a scrum and fed the young winger in space. With plenty to do, Beattie showed his pace, chipped ahead and dotted down for the try of the day and in doing so sent Omagh into a 29-15 lead.
Josh Rainey then charged down an attempted kick from the visiting outhalf and ran in from 30 metres before Rainey OB got a late consolation which left the score at Omagh 37 Rainey 20. A good day for the 2XV as they had to contend with unavailability and call ups to the 1XV with 10 changes to the team from the previous week’s win versus Donaghadee. Next up is a trip to Armagh in the Towns Cup this Friday night with the game kicking off at 7.45pm – all support will be greatly appreciated by the 2XV and their coaches.
